NFOPad Fan Memory/CPU usage on startup 2010-12-14 08:28:52
I have noticed delays in NFOPad startup times since I recently upgraded from an older Core 2 Duo laptop to a Core i3 machine. The older CPU had a higher clock speed, but I wouldn't consider the new computer a slouch.

Nevertheless, NFOPad now takes a couple of seconds to start, especially when running other programs (Chrome with multiple tabs, etc). I haven't noticed such delays with Microsoft's Notepad.

Is this something that can be optimized further?

Starting an empty nfopad or a small textfile should be pretty much instant. Opening very large text files can take several seconds depending on the file size. This is actually depending on a text component I use for loading unicode text, I've been considering writing my own loader to increase performance.

Actually, the text files I am opening are empty. I right-click on the destkop to create a new text document, then double-click to open.

hmm, not sure what the culprit could be, maybe your HD is slowing down the startup. If you save settings to ini try using the registry instead to see if that makes any difference.

I don't think it's hard drive, because this happens as the hard drive is working, not after an idle period, but I'll switch to the registry method and see if this continues.
